Kia Sport Concept
What's Special About It?
Kia readily admits to designing its latest concept car to appeal to young buyers. Its sleek profile, wide air intake, linear grille graphics, bold wheel arches and dual mufflers offer an aggressive appeal aimed right at the heart of the tuned Honda Civic crowd.
Inside the cabin, Kia focused on the Sport's ability to engage a young, performance-oriented driver. The sporty bucket seats are covered in yellow and dark gray leather, and the same color scheme extends to the center console and door trim, highlighted all around by brushed metal bits. Recognizing the youth market's appreciation of technological gadgets, Kia has wisely integrated a DVD and MP3 audio unit and navigation system in the Sport's center stack.
What's Edmunds Take?
So it looks good, but what about power? The Sport houses a 200-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter engine mated to a five-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission, which makes it a Kia we'd like to drive. As far as production intentions go, Kia says the decision to enter mass production will be made after gauging young consumers' interest in the Sport concept. — Kelly Toepke
