- Kia will introduce the Special Edition Hamstar Soul this spring.
- Kia's Soul Hamstar takes design cues from its 2010 SEMA Auto Show concept and draws inspiration from the automaker's widely viewed hip-hop hamster "This or That" TV commercial.
- The Soul boasts black exterior graphics, a rear spoiler, black fender vents, rear bumper appliqué, 18-inch alloy wheels and custom Hamstar floormats.
IRVINE, California — The hip-hop hamsters that star in Kia's award-winning "This or That" commercial have inspired a new version of the Soul that will arrive at U.S. dealerships later this spring.
The Special Edition Hamstar Soul stands out with black exterior graphics, a rear spoiler, black fender vents, rear bumper appliqué and 18-inch alloy wheels. The cabin sports a push-button ignition, leather-wrapped steering wheel, automatic climate control, black leather seats and Hamstar floor mats.
The price has yet to be revealed.
The hamsters have drawn a wide and appreciative audience, according to the Nielsen Company, which gave "This or That" the highly coveted Automotive Ad of the Year award at the 2011 New York Auto Show.
Kia won that same advertising honor in 2010 for the original hamster campaign, "A New Way to Roll." Nielsen said the campaigns have contributed to significant increases in consumer awareness, perception and consideration of the Kia brand, and led to record sales of the Soul. In March, the Soul became the second Kia vehicle to sell more than 10,000 units in a single month, and year-to-date sales are up 50.8 percent.
Inside Line says: Kia proves that commercials aren't just to encourage people to buy, but to inspire designers to create and sell. — Rene Wisely, Correspondent

I actually like the Soul a lot. But the Datsun Honey Bee decal version? No thanks.

This thing is a dud without the stickers
It will sell well to the "credit-challenged", airport rental loss leaders, and lifetime trailer park dwellers.

The car doesn't bother me so much, but those hamsters creep me out.

How does a car company dares to have a sense of humor and imagination!!!! (being sarcastic here)
I appreciate car companies making an effort in bringing the US vehicles that dare to be different in design and concept. If it weren't for those companies, we would all be driving boring Camrys.

Great if it's your style, but buyers might want to plan on keeping it for the life of the vehicle. Otherwise, they might as well wear parachute pants & a "where's the beef?" tshirt while doing the macarena to a Vanilla Ice song as they're hawking it for resale. It's fad-tastic.

Remove the stars front and back and you actually have something.

I'm not sure about the special edition Soul, however. To each his own I guess.
