Picked up my Red Rock edition about two weeks ago (after seeing one sold right under my nose, as a mattter of fact, but that's a different story...) and have absolutely fell in love with it. Actually got mine with a few extras on it in addition to the special edition package. Got splash guards, a sunroof visor, a front cover and the rear fin, which wasn't shown on the display model. One of the major things that is not mentioned in this article is that this edition gets the technology kit (smart key, push-to-start, uvo, rearview camera) which makes it even cooler! Only thing missing is the remote start, but with everything else the car has, I'm not gonna complain.  It's a great looking edition, and I get compliments on it, pretty much everywhere I go.

Though I'm a Mid-western man, my heart is somewhere in the deserts and mountains of The Southwest. My new Red Rock Special Edition KIA Soul is turning heads everywhere I go.
A clerk at a drive-thru almost fell backwards when he caught my neon speakers changing color during an Aerosmith tune...he froze, was about to say something but couldn't, apparently, when he gingerly backed away and nodded at me.
Another day for me and my KIA Soul Red Rock Special Edition

KIA sold a solid 100k units of this in the US last year.  It's growing on everybody, and even C&D likes it (0-60 in 7.9 with the stick, 0.82g).  Decent room, decent speed, decent fuel economy, econo-priced and not bland.

IL, please get one for the LT fleet!

That is a very interesting looking paint color. I like it.

This article doesn't mention that this is based on the highest trim of the soul, not the base.  So it's not like the $6,700 goes to paint, leather and Auto A/C.  The highest trim is like $20,350 without any options or accessories, just delivery.  There is an option pack on the Soul ! (highest trim) that has leather, push button start and nav for $2,500.  So this special edition can be a good value, because not everyone wants everything in that package.. maybe just leather.

I see nothing relating to the dessert, and think the special editions of any car are useless, but at least this one doesn't carry a $5,000-25,000 premium.  This is only $1000 more than an equal trim and has more features than it.
