IRVINE, California — The 2011 Kia Hamstar Soul starts at $20,990, including a $695 destination charge. That's $7,000 more than the base car, making it the most expensive model in the 2011 Soul lineup. In comparison, the standard 2011 Soul — sans any reference to the hip-hop hamsters in Kia's Soul TV advertising — starts at $13,995.
Up until this point, the most expensive 2011 Soul was the 2011 Kia Soul Sport, which starts at $19,190, according to the "build your own" configurator at Kia.com.
The Hamstar Soul, which was spun off of a Kia concept from the 2010 SEMA Auto show, is on sale now.
It's based on the Soul+ model and is equipped with a 2.0-liter inline-4 engine and a four-speed automatic transmission. Upgrades to the Hamstar Soul are purely cosmetic.
The limited-edition Soul is designed to "stand out in a sea of sameness," according to Kia. The showy sixth special edition Soul — essentially a rolling billboard for the brand's signature hamsters — gets "Molten Red" exterior paint, a black star graphic with Hamstar script logo on the hood and off-black matte finish stripes on the sides.
Other details include body-colored bumpers with a rear bumper appliqué, power sunroof, foglights, a rear sport spoiler, black 18-inch alloy wheels, black fender vents with turn signal indicator and a matte black alloy fuel door.
The cabin gets Hamstar floor mats, black leather-trimmed seats with heated front seats, push-button start with smart key, automatic climate control and leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. An audio upgrade package includes a center speaker, subwoofer, 315-watt external amplifier and speaker lights that pulse to the beat of the music or add mood lighting.
Inside Line says: You're going to really have to love those hamsters to shell out that kind of money.

Hey Sprague, put a manual with AWD in it and maybe I'll look past the lairy graphics you're overcharging for. At least give us a real live hamster and wheel for that price... Oh wait, I forgot, they're under the hood!

"You could go with this, or you could go with that. Here we go, here we go, here we go"
You could go with this, but you should probably go with something else.
