MIAMI — In a strange blend of "Teddy Bears' Picnic" and "Girls Gone Wild," Kia's Super Bowl ad for the 2011 Sorento crossover features five kiddie toys, grown to human proportions, partying it up in the new SUV on a road trip that takes them, among other places, to Texas and Las Vegas. The ad will appear during the third quarter of the football classic on Sunday, February 7.
"America, on February 7th, you deserve action, you deserve hijinx, you deserve hilarity and we're not going to let you down!" Kia said in its text accompanying the teaser video of the ad.
The "see the U.S.A." theme makes sense — in a way — since the Sorento is the Korean automaker's first U.S.-made vehicle. It is built in West Point, Georgia, where production started last November.
Inside Line says: Viewers may want to have the image of a sock monkey riding a mechanical bull — and getting a tattoo — surgically removed from their brains, but the ad should get the Sorento a second look. — Laura Sky Brown, Correspondent
