WASHINGTON — Kia is recalling 7,697 2011 Sorento vehicles because defective rear brake calipers could reduce braking power, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
"Some of the rear brake calipers may not have been properly machined," said NHTSA in its recalls summary of the problem. "As a result, brake fluid will leak, followed by illumination of the malfunction indicator light indicating the brake fluid level is low and should be checked, then a soft or spongy brake pedal feel, and if not serviced, reduced braking power which could increase the risk of a crash."
In other documentation filed with the federal government, Kia said there have been no reports of accidents or injuries as a result of this condition.
Kia dealers will inspect the rear calipers and replace them if necessary. The recall is expected to begin sometime in December. Owners can contact Kia at (800) 333-4542.

If there is a stupid award, dvsuton deserves it. How could you make a statement like this without even knowing this car is made in the USA? Bendix produces the brake calipers anyway.

The 2010\2011 Kia Sorento is built and assembled by Americans (and robots) at the brand new Kia Motors manufacturing facility in West Point, GA - right here in the good 'ol USA.
