Kia has shifted the new Sorento from a body-on-frame platform to a new monocoque design, similar to that used by its cousin, the Hyundai Santa Fe. Kia refers to the new design as an "urban CUV."
The company will offer four different engines in various global markets, including a new 194-horsepower 2.2-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel. For the U.S. market, Kia will feature a 172-hp 2.4-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine and a 273-hp 3.5-liter V6. Depending on market and model, the new Sorento will come with a choice of five- and six-speed manual and automatic transmissions.
The new Sorento is longer and lower than its predecessor, with more cabin space. It also features such amenities as keyless entry, an engine start button, a reversing camera, satellite navigation and a panoramic glass sunroof.
