SEOUL, South Korea — Kia Motors has announced it will introduce its all-new five-door version of the Kia Rio at the Geneva motor show next week.

Although the four-door sedan made its debut at the Detroit auto show, Kia chose to unveil the hatchback version in Geneva to emphasize the European focus of the new vehicle.

According to Mr. Yong Hwan Kim, senior executive vice president and COO of Kia Motors, "Our new Rio is completely redesigned from the ground up, created especially with our European customers in mind."

The result is a Rio that is taller and wider, with a shorter overall length than the previous version, reflecting the image of Kia's "exciting and enabling" brand. "We have created a superb compact car that is more stylish, more practical and more enjoyable to drive than its predecessor," said Jean-Charles Lievens, vice president of Kia Motors Europe.

The hatchback is available with the choice of three new engine types, including a diesel version.

Altogether Kia will offer 20 models in the upgraded Rio range, which will be available in Europe beginning this summer.

What this means to you: An economizer's dream, the Rio will come in a variety of flavors to choose from.
