IRVINE, California — A teaser image of the Kia Ray plug-in hybrid concept has been released by the Korean automaker in advance of its global debut at the 2010 Chicago Auto Show in February. Kia said the design, by Kia Design Center America, is meant to "demonstrate how they would approach packaging a plug-in hybrid."
Kia clearly has pulled out all the stops with this concept. It includes a sporty fastback profile, panoramic glass sunroof, LED taillights and an overall muscle-car presence. The company released no further details on the concept, promising more information at the concept's formal unveiling on February 11.
Kia continues to tinker with alt-fuel vehicles and has working prototypes operating in California and Korea, according to the company. It also plans to commercialize liquefied petroleum gas hybrid vehicles in Korea within the next 12 months. It also plans road testing of gas and diesel hybrid vehicles in Britain this year, according to a company statement.
