Kia VG Sedan Is Unveiled, Set To Replace Kia Amanti

SEOUL, South Korea — In a clear step toward sophistication, Kia Motors on Wednesday released images of the code-named VG sedan, which is set to replace the Kia Amanti in Korea, North America and Europe.

Kia Motors America spokesman Alex Fedorak told Inside Line on Wednesday that the VG will replace the Kia Amanti in the U.S. "at some point." But he couldn't say what the timetable for its introduction here would be.

The Kia VG is targeting such domestic competitors as the Buick LaCrosse and the Ford Taurus. The VG is expected to be equipped with a V6 engine, although Kia did not detail any of the car's specifications in its statement.

The automaker said the VG would go on sale in Korea at the end of the year.

"VG clearly demonstrates the next stage in Kia's design evolution and showcases our new design principles," said Hyoung Keun Lee, Kia Motors senior executive vice president and chief operating officer of the automaker's International Business Division.

Inside Line says: Kia takes the wraps off a compelling competitor that should give domestic sedans a run for the money. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent
