AUBURN HILLS, Michigan — The Jeep Wrangler JK-8 Independence, a vehicle created via a $5,499 Mopar JK-8 kit, enables a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited to morph into a two-door pickup truck.
Chrysler issued a compelling time-lapse video of the transformation, showing a team of Mopar workers remaking the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited in about an hour.
The automaker says a dealership or "skilled do-it-yourselfers" can do the installation.
Components of the Mopar JK-8 kit include a steel bed, inner and outer bed sides, sport bar extensions and a fiberglass hardtop.
The kit is inspired by the Jeep Scrambler CJ-8 from the 1980s, according to Chrysler.
"For Jeep Wrangler Unlimited owners, our new Mopar JK-8 kit answers the call for even more radical customization," said Pietro Gorlier, Mopar president and CEO in a statement.
Inside Line says: A real-life transformer, as Mopar continues to up the ante.

EVERYTHING needs a .50 cal mounted on it. Or a flamethrower.

Interesting concept, but it needs a .50 cal mounted on the back.

Very cool, especially in a couple more years when reasonably priced used Wrangler Unlimited's start turning up. Drop in a 5.7L hemi and you have one hell of a small(ish) pickup.

Jepp should have LONG AGO come out with a Wrangler-based pickup based on the Gladiator concept it had some years back. Why they didn't confounds me to this day. Then again, they probably smoked weed and drank beer at lunch and forgot to make it so.

As a previous owner of a CJ-8... cool. I think Jeep oughta just offer this as another model.
