    What Is It?
    Jeep Treo Concept

    What's Special About It?
This futuristic three-passenger off-road vehicle from Jeep is designed to run on fuel-cell technology. Since the power plant would fit under the Treo, the traditional front end, found on most current cars, has been lopped off by designers. The eight small glass windows in the front — meant to evoke the feeling of the old Jeep grille — will give a startling view of the road as it rushes toward the driver. If you're lucky enough to sit in the backseat, you will be encased in a bubble of glass giving you a panoramic view of your surroundings. The lateral fins on the side not only house taillights but also allow two mountain bikes to be connected to the Treo for easy hauling. While this concept car was not operational, if put into production it would employ drive- steer- and brake-by-wire technology. Prominently displayed, specially designed tires continue the classic Jeep theme.

    Why Should You Care?
This is a highly futuristic design that successfully pays homage to the look and feel of Jeep. It won't see production any time soon, but it does show that Jeep is considering vehicles that are more than just backcountry rock crawlers. — Philip Reed
