Jaguar XKR-R
What's special about it?
Completely modified from top to bottom, the XKR-R represents the ultimate in performance capability from the XK chassis. Jaguar's Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) team left no part untouched in its quest to see just how far it could go with the current platform.
Underneath, custom Eibach springs and remote reservoir shock absorbers handle the stiffened chassis, while aluminum body bushings and a custom steering rack transmit maximum feedback to the driver. A rear axle borrowed from the S-Type sedan resides in the rear along with an eight-point rollcage for better tunability.
On the outside, 20-inch BBS wheels and massive Brembo brakes give the car a look of supreme ability, while the revised front and rear bumpers and sculptured rocker panels add a more subtle touch of athleticism.
The standard XKR already boasts a not-so-subtle 370 horsepower from its supercharged 4.0-liter V8, but the boys from SVO say they will eventually draw 450 ponies from the force-fed mill. The show car was primed for only 400 horses, but it did feature a Tremec T-56 six-speed manual transmission just like some other noteworthy members of the 400-horsepower club.
The interior features Recaro seats with four-point racing harnesses. Carbon fiber lines the dash, while aluminum rings the gauges and covers the pedals.
Why should you care?
Jaguars always boast of strong performance, but they rarely match their German rivals for ultimate capability. The XKR-R is a sign that Jaguar may finally start building cars that challenge the world's best in more that just the leather and wood department. Ed Hellwig
