Caught during commercial filming in Cape Town, South Africa, the new XK coupe looks every bit as sleek as the concept. Details like the side vents behind the front wheels and the taillights are nearly identical to the concept, but the center-mounted exhaust pipes have been pushed to each side on the production model. Up front, foglights reside where the show car had intakes, but all other shapes and details remain the same.
A lightweight all-aluminum chassis underpins the new coupe, so the ponderous feel of the current model should be history. Under the hood, expect to see a 4.4-liter V8 in the 300-horsepower range. Combined with a six-speed transmission and the reduced weight of the aluminum body, this XK should have no trouble performing on par with rivals like the Mercedes-Benz CL and BMW 6 Series coupes.
Expect to see it officially unveiled this fall at the Frankfurt motor show with sales beginning next spring.
