2002 Jaguar XJR 100 and XKR 100
What's special about them?
Commemorating the birth of Jaguar founder Sir William Lyons 100 years ago, the special-edition XJR 100 and XKR 100 are limited to a production run of just 500 copies worldwide, guaranteeing exclusivity for the lucky few who can afford and find one.
Both versions are powered by Jaguar's supercharged 4.0-liter AJ-V8 engine, which makes 370 horsepower and gets them to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds or better. A five-speed automatic transmission sends the prodigious power to the rear wheels, while giant 19-inch (20 on the XKR) nine-spoke BBS two-piece wheels keep these Jags glued to the ground. Cross-drilled Brembo brakes with silver calipers and red Jaguar script swiftly haul these cats down from speed.
Exteriors are painted a special Anthracite color, while interiors are swathed in Warm Charcoal Autolux leather. Both get an R-Performance steering wheel, a Momo gearshift knob and gray-stained bird's-eye maple wood veneer. Sedans have red-stitched leather, while coupes and convertibles get Recaro seats and aluminum interior trim.
Other unique equipment on the closed coupe and droptop include an active cruise control system, reverse parking control and an R-Performance Handling Pack that includes tauter suspension tuning through uprated springs and antiroll bars and tighter steering. All 100s include a DVD-based navigation system, premium audio system and rain-sensing wipers.
Why should you care?
Really, you shouldn't. You probably can't afford one, and so few will trickle onto U.S. shores that it's likely to be impossible to get one. But damn, if they ain't purty! Christian Wardlaw
