VIDEO: Jaguar Teases the 2010 XJ

COVENTRY, England — Jaguar has released its third teaser video of the 2010 XJ sedan, this time detailing the vehicle's lightweight aluminum structure. The car will be officially unveiled on July 9.

"The fundamental difference with the XJ is the body shell is made from aluminum. That gives us a significant weight advantage, which, in general usage, means that we get better fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions," said Jaguar's Chief Technical Specialist for Body and Engineering Mark White.

Jag also talks about the XJ's high power-to-weight ratio and the fact that its aluminum body is 85 percent recyclable.

The new XJ is wider and longer than the current model and definitely takes some design cues from the sporty 2009 Jaguar XF. Power will come from the company's new 5.0-liter V8 engines, meaning its main competitors will be the BMW 7 Series and the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

Sales will begin in Europe late this year, while those interested in the U.S. will be able to get one in early 2010.

Inside Line says: Expect more teaser videos closer to the July 9 unveiling. — Mike Lysaght, Correspondent
