MAHWAH, New Jersey — Even though analysts are predicting a drop in luxury-goods profits of as much as 10 percent this year, some traditions of the rich don't die easily. One such tradition is the October rollout of the luxury marque featured in the Neiman Marcus Christmas Book. The new model is the 2010 Jaguar XJL Supercharged Neiman Marcus Edition, bearing a price tag of $105,000.

Just 50 of the Neiman Marcus Editions will be made, and the retailer said it expects "them to sell out fast." Reservations kick off on October 16 at noon EDT at 866-524-6963.

The flagship luxury sedan is decked out in Celestial Black metallic paint with a custom navy-and-ivory leather interior. Other luxury touches include 20-inch double-10-spoke polished alloy wheels, illuminated tread plates and trunk finisher. Under the hood is a 5.0-liter V8 with an Eaton supercharger that churns out 470 horsepower. The engine is mated to a six-speed ZF transmission with steering-wheel-mounted shift paddles.

This is the third time a Jaguar has been the featured vehicle in the Christmas book. In 1968, the XK-E Grand Touring Coupe was featured, and the 1997 Jaguar XK8 Convertible was another pick.

In August, the Wall Street Journal noted that luxury is still big business: $175 billion big, at the last count.

Inside Line says: Will wealthy consumers still shop for the big stuff this holiday season? The sale of the Jag Neiman Marcus Edition should be an interesting test. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent
