The new XJ features Jaguar's next-generation aluminum body architecture, in both standard and long-wheelbase versions, and a lineup of Generation III gasoline and diesel engines, with the 510-horsepower supercharged V8 at the top of the list. A panoramic glass roof and resulting more streamlined roof line are notable features of the new XJ.
The trim levels include Luxury, Premium Luxury and Portfolio, as well as two high-performance choices, Supercharged and Supersport. Among the electronic goodies, there's a 12.3-inch high-definition Virtual Instruments panel with an 8-inch touchscreen that can provide DVD or TV entertainment for the passenger while the driver uses satellite navigation at the same time.A top-of-the-line Bowers & Wilkins 1,200-watt sound system is another luxury feature of the new XJ.
The first XJs will reach customers in early 2010, but Jaguar opened the order books on Thursday immediately after the unveiling, along with a dedicated Web site. It's priced starting at the equivalent of $85,850 for the 3.0-liter V6 diesel with standard wheelbase.
