COVENTRY, England — Jaguar will unveil a face-lifted XF sedan, along with a new 2.2-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel engine, at the upcoming 2011 New York Auto Show.
The British automaker released teaser images of the 2012 XF undergoing tests with the new TDI engine, which delivers 188 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque.
Jaguar said the engine, which is fitted with an intelligent stop-start system, returns an average 44 mpg on the combined European driving cycle.
Mated with a new ZF eight-speed automatic, the TDI engine will enable the 2012 XF to accelerate from 0-60 in less than 8.5 seconds. Top speed is 140 mph.
Jaguar said the test images were of "a prototype development vehicle," adding that the new diesel engine would debut "in a future XF production car" at the New York auto show.
A Jaguar spokesman on Friday told Inside Line: "Unfortunately, the 2.2 diesel will not be coming to the United States in the immediate future. The current market and regulatory environments prevent this."
Inside Line says: The mechanical changes may be more significant than the sheet-metal tweaks. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent

So what happeded to the Jags? It does not look good for Jaguar when they promise to show up at an auto show and then turn into no shows.

As I love the idea of a high mileage Jag in the States, I'd rather have the 2.7D that the Euros get :-D

So does this mean the 8A will be standard for the entire XF lineup or just for the diesel?

TDI is VW terminology...not Jaguar! This looks like a fantastic car with fantastic fuel economy....definately could be a homerun for Jaguar in the U.S. and SHOULD be here ASAP!!!

unless that is a VW engine, calling it TDI is not OK.
