MAHWAH, New Jersey — For those wondering what to do with the 510 horses under the hood of the 2010 Jaguar XFR and XKR, the automaker provides a little help. The Jaguar R Performance Academy launches on December 1 with some hand-holding from professional driving instructors. Best of all, it's free to owners.
The Jaguar R Performance Academy begins on December 1 at the Homestead Miami Speedway and then will roll out to various U.S. tracks in 2010. They include the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Monticello Motor Club in Monticello, New York, and the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California.
The program is designed to use racetrack lessons and apply them to real-world driving. Participants will be tutored in maximum acceleration, braking, emergency lane changes, cornering and autocross. They will also do hot laps with racing drivers.
"The security of having a world-class professional driving instructor by your side on an enclosed, high-speed track creates the perfect setting for both education and appreciation," said BJ Colari, general manager of sales operations for Jaguar Cars.
The XFR and XKR get Jaguar's supercharged 510-horsepower V8. The 2010 Jaguar XFR starts at $80,000, including an $850 destination charge, while the 2010 Jaguar XKR starts at $96,000, including an $850 destination charge.
Inside Line says: If you're looking to make the case for purchasing a Jaguar XKR or XFR, here's another good reason. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent
