PEBBLE BEACH, California — The Jaguar XJ75 Platinum Concept, which debuted this weekend here, gives high-end Jaguar buyers a better idea of how they may be able to customize the XJ sedan in the future, the automaker said.
The XJ75 Platinum Concept is a one-off design project spun off the 2011 Jaguar XJL Supercharged, said the automaker. The concept, created to celebrate the marque's 75th anniversary, uses a black-and-white theme and such special features as a bespoke clock in the cabin designed in partnership with Britain's Bremont Watch Company and a 20-speaker Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system.
Details include front, rear and side sills to give a lowered appearance, along with "Satin Matte Pearlescent White" exterior paint. Exterior chrome has been "revised" to either a dark chrome or gloss black. Custom 22-inch wheels are black with a brushed contrast finish. The concept gets gloss pearlescent white air vents, veneers and diamond-stitch suede inserts to the seats and headliner.
"The XJ75 Platinum Concept is a design exercise that shows our vision of customization," said Giles Taylor, Jaguar XJ chief designer, in a statement.
The XJ75 Platinum Concept is equipped with a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine that churns out 470 horsepower and 424 pound-feet of torque.
Inside Line says: Pay attention to the details here, because you may be able to incorporate some of them into a future Jag XJ. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent

Somewhat, Jaguar was acquired by Tata in 2008. Ratan Tata claimed he really wants to see a nice set of cars from Jaguar, hence the support with funding. We don't know if the XJ in this form would've been released under Ford due to not knowing the funding and whatnot. It can be assumed that it would've been released because they did give the "ok" on the new XF and XK. The fact that Ian Callum released the XJ Concept in 2008, shows that there was a good amount of support for a successor by Ford.
We do know that really, Ian Callum is the one who pioneered modern Jaguar. I personally love the old XJ and X-Type, etc, because of the retro styling; however, many people hated it. I still find the new XK to be gorgeous, the XF looks amazing with the right colors, and the XJ, while looking kind of bloated in certain colors (this 75th anniversary one looks great though), still beats any of the flagship's styling from Audi, BMW, Merc, and Lexus.
In short: Tata really hasn't had much to do with the newest models right now aside from lots of funding. Ford and Ian Callum have done the work in recrafting Jag's image.
Now the upcoming roadster and whatever else Jag is going to come up with is going to be attributed to Ratan Tata actually wanting Jag to make stunningly nice cars like the old XKSS, E-Type, etc, and hopefully with Ian Callum's design direction, they do end up looking gorgeous, and performing solidly thanks to the engineers... Lets just hope the ghosts of lucas electronics don't invade Jags anymore.

"Tata really did turn Jaguar around."
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Tata had nothing to do with the current XJ. Ford did.

The Alpina B7 is "one ugly son of a b-" compared to this.
This particular configuration, if the height was raised to a more realistic level, is the most beautiful flagship sedan I've seen for current line ups. Then with Jaguar's maintenance program, its evident that they're trying hard to compete with Merc and BMW, and I think they deserve more than a piece of the luxury pie... Until they update the XK and XF interiors to fit in with the rest of the family that is.

@cardesigner82: tata motors owns jaguar (and land rover) now. i'm not really sure if ford has a say in anything related to those marques...i'm sure there's more details out there--can someone elaborate?
i think it's important that jaguar give this whole customization thing a try. the new XJ is really good as it is, but i can see how people would say that certain owners could ruin a perfectly good car by speccing it weirdly. then again, jag has some good designers working on their cars--a few nicely designed exterior add-ons could be a very good thing.

That high contrast of the black/white is beautiful. It integrates well with the black D-pillar.
***SIDE NOTE***Does Ford still own Jaguar?

This new XJ is by far one of the best, if not the best, looking sedan on the road today! If this new customization package becomes available it would only get better. I would love to Jaguar's competitors attempt a design so bold. I bet none of them will be able to pull it off as well as Jaguar has. Bravo!!
