- Sketch of two-door sports car has echoes of Aston Martin.
- Jaguar refers to the car as a "production concept."
- The C-X16 is described as a "precursor to future Jaguar sports cars."
GAYDON, England — Describing it as a "precursor to future Jaguar sports cars," Britain's Jaguar Cars released a sketch of the C-X16 "production concept." The sleek two-door will be formally unveiled in early September, ahead of the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show.
The C-X16 was created by Jaguar Design boss Ian Callum and the team that developed the stunning C-X75 concept at the 2010 Paris Auto Show. Where the C-X75 looked more futuristic, the C-X16 appears to be quite contemporary, with echoes of Aston Martin in its lines — no surprise, considering Callum earlier headed design at Aston Martin.
Jaguar and sister marque Land Rover have embarked on a multibillion-dollar program to expand their product portfolios over the next five years, including production of the C-X75 supercar.
Jaguar's Global Brand Director Adrian Hallmark said, "Jaguar has set in place bold, ambitious plans for the future. This production concept demonstrates the depth of design and engineering ability we have within Jaguar to make these plans come to life."
Inside Line says: The C-X16 likely previews another element of Jaguar's future product program, which the company says "aims to set new class benchmarks in design, vehicle dynamics and technology."

i'm probably one of a few people that don't like the new styling direction of the new jags (tho new interiors are very nice) and really like the above sketch (can also see some hints of XK coupe). Looking forward to seeing what the production vehicle looks like..

Must agree...something a bit more lifelike and colorful would have considerably more appeal

A sketch that looks like it came from a bored design school student hardly counts as a tease. It's about as meaningful as a fashion designer's sketch is to what shows up on the runway let alone what people can actually buy. This could have been an early sketch of anything from an old Toyota Supra to a Porsche Cayman.
The saddest part of this is that the manufacturers know that the auto media is so hard up for daily content that it will get plenty of press.
Now if they can price it at $30K, I won't be so bitter.

good looking sketch but doesn't really break any new ground. Still, after XJ with some very strange details, conservative styling could be a good thing.
