Jaguar F-TYPE roadster
What's so special about it?
In the opening presentation of the 2001 L.A. Show, Dr. Wolfgang Reitzle announced that after careful consideration and extensive planning efforts, Jaguar has decided to produce the F-TYPE roadster that debuted in Detroit last year.
"The overwhelmingly positive reaction across the globe to last year's concept has convinced Jaguar to build the F-TYPE roadster," Reitzle remarked during his roughly forty-five minute, off-the-cuff speech.
Although the sleek two-seater does bear some resemblance to the classic E-type roadsters of the sixties, Reitzle was careful to point out that the F-TYPE "has nothing to do with retro design. It's heritage design, so it's really something brand new and our ambition is that it has to be a no-compromise roadster which will be unbelievably attractive."
No further details were discussed, but judging by the looks of the concept, the F-TYPE will likely become one of the most eagerly anticipated cars from Jaguar ever.
Why should you care?
Building the F-TYPE is a bold step for a car company like Jaguar, who is typically forced to share components to reduce costs. If it is a commercial success, other car companies will be less timid about building stand-alone vehicles, which will result in more original and daring designs.
