- The movie car is listed at $59,000.
- By comparison, a 1964 Aston Martin DB5 from the Bond films is expected to fetch $5 million at auction.
- This Jag is from movie promotions. The actual movie car is in a museum in England.
PHILADELPHIA — A 1970 Jaguar E-Type that was used in the 1997 movie Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery and dubbed the "Shaguar" is up for sale on eBay for $59,900.
Actor Mike Myers, in the role of Austin Powers — the goofy British spy who favored crushed-velvet suits and Beatle boots — spoofed the more serious James Bond movies. Powers, whose middle name was "Danger," was cryogenically frozen in the 1960s and resurrected to save the world. The movie's trailer described him as "a swinger in a square world."
The eBay auction of the Austin Powers car stands in whimsical contrast to the upcoming auction of James Bond's 1964 Aston Martin DB5, which is scheduled to be sold this fall by RM Auctions and Sotheby's and could command in excess of $5 million.
In a Tuesday morning phone conversation with Inside Line, the owner of the Shaguar said it is one of several "pop culture cars" that he owns, including a Ferrari once owned by the late actor William Holden and a red Ferrari used in the movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
"I've owned it (the Shaguar) for two or three years," said Alan Lewenthal, 45, the owner of Marquis Auto Restorations and an "auto archaeologist" who will be featured in a National Geographic show on June 24. "Whenever it was nice out, I drove it."
Lewenthal explained that two Jags were made for the Austin Powers movie. He said he bought the vehicle from a private collector.
"He sent me copies of the documentation, including letters from New Line Cinema," Lewenthal said. "The right-hand-drive one filmed in the movie is in Jaguar's museum in England and they made a left-hand-drive one to promote the movie in the U.S."
Think of the eBay version as a kind of automotive Mini-Me.
The car features a custom-painted British flag on the exterior, red custom carpeting and a blue-and-red custom interior with white piping.

So this is just a Shaguar clone? If it wasn't in the movie, it's just another used car.
