Nissan to End U.S. Production of Infiniti QX56, Nissan Quest and Nissan Titan

DETROIT — Nissan will bring U.S. production of three of its largest vehicles — the Infiniti QX56, the Nissan Quest and the Nissan Titan — to an end by 2010. But despite persistent rumors on the Internet about the so-called Nissan "trio in triage," the Japanese automaker will not spell out specific plans for its big vehicles, including the Nissan Armada.

"We will be moving the production of several of our vehicles currently produced at our Canton, Mississippi, plant to other facilities to make room for several commercial vehicles beginning in 2010," said Nissan spokesman Darryll Harrison in response to an e-mail query by Inside Line on Wednesday. "This includes the Nissan Quest, as well as the Infiniti QX, the next generations of which will be built in Japan. In addition, the next-generation Nissan Titan will be produced at a Chrysler facility in Mexico.

"Beyond those comments, we have no further comment."

Earlier this week, Motor Authority described the Infiniti QX56, the Nissan Quest and Nissan Armada as "today's trio in triage." It said "the Armada's future remains in doubt." Motor Authority added: "Its [Armada's] conspicuous absence from the 'future production' list hints strongly at its cancellation or replacement come the end of this generation."

Inside Line says: No tombstone up just yet in front of any of Nissan's big vehicles, according to the latest word from the automaker. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent
