FRANKLIN, Tennessee — Infiniti on Wednesday showed off a boat modified around an Infiniti QX56 engine and decked out with such touches as an Infiniti analog clock. Now it wants help christening it.
The one-off boat powered by the 400-horsepower 5.6-liter V8 engine from the Infiniti QX56 is a community-college project.
Infiniti said that project updates, including teaser photos, will be posted on Infiniti's Facebook page and Twitter page.
"Fans and followers of these sites will soon also have an opportunity to name the Infiniti-powered boat," said Infiniti in a statement.
There are lots of Infiniti-related names at Yachtnames.ws. They include Infiniti, Infinity and Infiniyum. More irreverent suggestions include Inn Deep, Neversink III and She's Only 17. Or perhaps the more classic names, such as Excelsior and Excalibur, would work.
"A good yacht name sometimes gets inspired by even a very bad yacht name," the site notes.
Infiniti said the boat is custom-outfitted to "QX-inspired standards." Details include semi-aniline leather on the seats and XM satellite radio with NavWeather and Bose speakers.
Infiniti engineers and training managers helped automotive technical training program students from Tennessee Technical Center-Nashville and Nashville State Community College with the boat project.
Upscale automotive brands often cross paths with mariners. The BMW Design Group veered away from automotive design in 2009 when it took on the challenge of designing a 55-foot yacht.
