FRANKLIN, Tennessee — Infiniti has taken electronic technology one step further and has launched a Web page that will show live streaming video of its new 2011 Infiniti M being unveiled at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. The twist: the unveiling is of a 3D "virtual M," through what the automaker is calling "virtual video mapping." Infiniti says it's the first automaker to use this technology in a product unveiling.
The Web page was launched on Wednesday and will stream the unveiling live at 6:30 p.m. PDT (9:30 p.m. EDT) on Friday, August 14. The unveiling will be presided over by Infiniti Design Director Shiro Nakamura. The 2011 Infiniti M will be seen as a computer-generated rendering, created using engineering data that is projected onto a full-size 3D model. Infiniti clarifies that "no physical vehicle will be used" but that a "topographical site-specific video projection mimics the vehicle's physical presence."
Infiniti teamed with RTT USA and Klip Collective to make the virtual unveiling possible.
