With Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) guiding most Automobile Companies these days we can expect to see more and more hybrids. It doesn't really matter if they sell or not. They need them to keep their average in check.

I think Infiniti makes some of the best luxury cars and crossovers on the market. While Toyota and Honda luxury divisions struggle with various issues, Nissans Infiniti stands tall. The M is a beatiful car and I think offers alot more for thousands less than the competition. You couldn't get nearly the same in an E-Class or a 5-Series. The M is definately a great car that is overlooked.

Lions-
As much as hate Toyota, I wouldn't say this car is more reliable than a Lexus. I'm not saying it's any worse, but aside from the recent recalls, some of which were total BS, Lexus has always been known their quality and reliability. Especially in vehicles like the GS who don't 'suffer' from being built on a shared Toyota platform. That's all I'm saying.
As for the engine, I stand firm behind that. I know all about the VQ engine making the Ward's list, but there's a reason why it's absent from it now- it's too unrefined and coarse. Especially for the market segment this car plays in. And I know, I've had three VQ cars. A 2000 Maxima, a 2002 Maxima, and a 2006 350Z. The engine was coarse back then, but it's really gotten carried away lately. I drove a G37 6-sp coupe and was amazed at how rough and harsh it is at the upper rpm ranges. That engine is getting long in the tooth.

Looks like you're paying $40,000 too much for a gold badged maxima. The party store owner crowd will love it.

At least you admit that you're a fan boy. My 335d has spent 0 time in the shop other than for 12,000 mile oil changes. My 335d is faster, much cheaper, gets better MPG, and won't go slower after the battery runs out.

"I'd rather avoid the HPFP issues BMW seems to have with their turbo engines"
Please research before you post, the HPFP issues are all on the N54/N55 PETROL/GASOLINE engines. Unlike gas which acts like a solvent, diesel actually lubricates the HPFP pump. So far, they're been no reported HPFP failures on the 335d.

One other thing Honda4life; The Altima hybrid has been on the road for a few years now, and Nissan/renault/Infiniti took the lease technology from Toyota and made it ten times better be getting rid of all of its flaws. dual clutch 7 speed auto, that is seemless and the lithium ion battery pack that sits center keeps the car even more balanced then the M37. Check out the post on Autoweek.com, and take a look see.

@a1c- If you don't like the looks, I can understand that. It's not for everyone; however you say the engine isn't refined and yet the VQ 3.5 Liter which made the Maxima such a great car won 11 years straight. As far as more reliable then a Lexus; I don't recall Infiniti having even a minor recall compaired to Lexus. 1.7 Lexus recall, and another 2.2 million Toyota's recalled.... You may disagree, but facts are facts, and you are just wrong

Why the repeated reference to a 335d.....I too would like a diesel option, but the 335d is not in the same league as an Infiniti M series; such a comparison is not valid. By the way, I believe the M Hybrid has the 3.5 liter motor which is smoother and quieter than the 3.7...nothing like a tractor engine. Although the fuel savings might not be financially viable, the gains over the gas only model are actually fairly substantial.

thats always a concern since BMWs get expensive with age. But most luxury car buyers only keep their vehicles around 3 years and BMW offers you free maintanence for 4 yrs/50k so you should be fine, but if you are really worried you could just get an extended warranty too. You have to think also that Infiniti has never made a hybrid vehicle and various electronics can fail or the battery as well.
