Infiniti Teases Electric Car Concept Ahead of 2012 Geneva Auto Show

DETROIT — Infiniti stole some thunder on Tuesday from the 2012 Detroit Auto Show with another teaser of its "range-extended electric sports car" concept bound for the 2012 Geneva Auto Show.

The new image hints at the curvy design language of the concept.

"The sports-car concept will be the first Infiniti to have not only a range-extender drivetrain, but also one mounted in a mid-ship package for optimal weight distribution and therefore handling," said Infiniti in a statement.

Without disclosing further details, it sounds like the engine and hybrid/electric drivetrain layout will give the concept more of a performance flavor, perhaps along the lines of the next-generation Acura NSX.

Infiniti also said that the concept showcases "a change in vocabulary for Infiniti's design language."

The concept is unnamed at this point.

"The purpose of the Geneva concept is to explore what might be the next stage in how to deliver a vivid, engaging and sophisticated driving experience from an electrically propelled vehicle," Infiniti said.
