FRANKLIN, Tennessee — Despite declining sales, Infiniti on Wednesday said it will increase the price on the 2009 EX35. The base 2009 EX35 rear-wheel-drive model will start at $34,665, including a $865 destination charge, reflecting an increase of $2,650.

The base 2008 Infiniti EX35 started at $32,015, including a $715 destination charge. The carryover 2009 Infiniti EX35 goes on sale May 29. Infiniti explained the price increase by saying the 2009 EX35 gets "new standard equipment and revised package content."

It said the base model now gets standard "leather-appointed seating, RearView Monitor, rear HVAC vents and roof rails." The 2009 EX35 Journey model adds a standard six-disc CD changer, a power tilt/telescoping steering column, a coat hanger on the driver's headrest and dual-zone automatic temperature control. The base 2009 EX35 Journey rear-wheel-drive model starts at $36,065, including shipping. That is a $500 price increase over the outgoing model.

The top-of-the-line 2009 Infiniti EX35 all-wheel-drive Journey starts at $38,265, including shipping. That is a $1,300 increase over the outgoing model.

Earlier this month, Infiniti reported that it sold just 538 EX35 vehicles in April 2009, a 43.3 percent decline over April 2008.
