Thanks Infiniti, you just made it much easier to pick the high point of this year’s Geneva Auto Show. The Infiniti Essence Concept is like a runway supermodel – as soon it rolls out onto the stage, you can’t help but stare and smile. The long hood and dramatic front fender arches are both stylish and powerful at the same time. But as opulent as the car seems, its gas/electric hybrid powertrain adds a touch of responsibility Powered by a twin-turbo, direct-injection 3.7-liter V6 and an electric drive called "3D Motor," the Essence cranks out an amazing 592 horsepower - more than 430 hp of that comes just from the gas engine. Out back, there’s just a hint of G37 in the deck lid, but the sweeping, sculpted fastback is unlike anything we've seen in decades. All that glass looks as if it could hide a hatch-style door, but instead there's an abbreviated trunk packed with custom-built designer luggage. Inside the cabin, everything is arranged to cater to the driver, and yet there’s an undeniable opulence as well. The two-seater uses plenty of leather and suede trim throughout the cabin, plus a flat-bottom steering wheel and hand-painted wood trim. The instrument faces look inspired by a high-end wristwatch while there are push buttons to start the engine as well as engage the parking brake. Infiniti says the Essence is celebration of the brand’s 20 years history, as well as an inspiring exploration into the brand's future. We’re not sure if that means the company is going to build a car like this or not. In the mean time, we’ll be crossing our fingers.
