COSTA MESA, California — A custom 2012 Hyundai Veloster aimed at piquing the interest of student mechanics was unveiled ahead of the 2011 SEMA Show. The custom Veloster is the fruit of a partnership among Hyundai, PM Lifestyle and the Universal Technical Institute.
Details include a vibrant blue exterior paint job, carbon-fiber hood and Konig Deception wheels. Interior modifications include a custom leather cabin, Kicker audio components and a Panasonic Toughbook.
"The Veloster is the perfect platform for enthusiasts looking to make everyday modifications to their vehicles and for students who are learning what it takes to be a mechanic," said Jayke Milton of PM Lifestyle in a statement.
The PM Lifestyle Veloster is bound for a three-year tour after its SEMA appearance. It will appear at autocross, supercross and school demonstration events.
Hyundai's statement about the custom Veloster made it appear as though it's still a work-in-progress. It said that many upgrades were still in the planning stages and that the custom Veloster will have an "anticipated performance of 163 horsepower."
This is the second Hyundai Veloster to break cover ahead of the 2011 SEMA Show.
PM Lifestyle publishes Wrecked Magazine, which covers the motorsport of drifting. Universal Technical Institute trains automotive technicians.
Inside Line says: Who wouldn't want to tinker with a Veloster while learning the trade?

I own one. Grey, 6spd, appearance and tech package and I love it all. The dealership was awful to deal with but I love the car. Getting about 35mpg right now in mixed driving. I think it looks great!

Driving by a dealer's lot last week I spotted a Veloster displayed front and centre. Not impressed, after all the nice product Hyundai has been putting out, the Veloster was underwhelming.
The custom Veloster however, shows something else altogether. Nice job!

I've seen this car in person. For some reason it reminds me of an old person with their backs seriously crouched over.
