    What's Special About It?
Hyundai's XG350 successor made its international debut today as the Hyundai Grandeur, although the United States version is expected to use the name TG. The new midsize sedan bears a close family resemblance to the smaller Sonata.

Power comes from a new 3.3-liter aluminum V6 engine which produces 230 horsepower and 220 pound-feet of torque. The outgoing XG made just 194 hp, plus rumor has it the TG is 25-percent more fuel efficient in spite of the horsepower bump.

This single engine option is mated to a five-speed automatic gearbox with a manual-shift mode. The TG uses a double-wishbone front suspension and a redesigned multilink setup in the rear, and all TGs are equipped with electronic stability control.

Slightly longer, wider and taller than its predecessor, the Hyundai TG offers a more spacious cabin. Dual-zone climate control, an electronic tilt and telescopic steering wheel and a premium sound system with steering wheel-mounted controls upgrade the interior content, while leather with metal and wood trim improve the overall look. Active headrests and front and rear side curtain airbags are standard equipment, and xenon headlamps are an option.

The 2006 Hyundai TG goes on sale in late 2005.

    What's Edmunds' Take?
With the TG's lengthy list of features and improved packaging, Hyundai should have no problem luring new consumers into its showrooms. — Kelly Toepke
