NEW YORK — Hyundai will unveil the 2011 Sonata Hybrid and the 2011 Sonata Turbo at the 2010 New York Auto Show this week, and Inside Line will provide an exclusive behind-the-scenes Webcast of the Hyundai press conference live from the auto show floor.

The Webcast will begin at 1:35 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday, March 31, 2010. Immediately following the reveal, Hyundai will hold a "post-game show" discussion with CEO John Krafcik and National Sales Vice President Dave Zuchowski. Automotive journalists attending the online Webcast can submit questions to be answered live on camera by the executives.

Krafcik recently described the launch of the 2011 Sonata as "the single most important launch for the Hyundai brand." The automaker plans to spend about $160 million on advertising for the car's launch versus about $120 million for the launch of the 2006 Sonata and $80 million for the launch of the Genesis.

Krafcik also told IL that the Sonata hybrid is designed to stand apart from the gasoline-engined Sonata. "It's a hybrid in a tuxedo," he said. "It's not like Camry Hybrid or Fusion Hybrid."

Equipped with a direct-injected and turbocharged 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder, the Sonata Turbo will be positioned above Sonatas with the normally aspirated 2.4-liter engine. The 2.0-liter turbo is likely to make in the neighborhood of 240-250 horsepower.

Inside Line says: It's a big week in the Big Apple for Hyundai, as the Korean automaker prepares to unveil its first hybrid live on IL. — Kelly Toepke, News Editor

I think Hyundai USA CEO is most handsome auto exec. His voice is cool, too.

274HP with turbo/DI and 34MPG. and 200HP no turbo/DI and 35 MPG. Very nice Hyundai, Very nice. Now they should put that in the Genesis Coupe 2.0T, and replace that 276HP 3.5L V6 in the Santa Fe and put the 2.0T in it.

    *Correction lithium POLYMER battery.

All this while still using the 6 speed automatic instead of the commonly preferred CVT. Impressive.

I am looknig forward to hearing the details of the Sonata Turbo.

I'd also wonder - Is this new, upgraded 2.0T going to make its way under the hood of the Genesis Coupe?  I'd hope so!

Totally looking forward to this. Would love to see what this turbo engine is going to do. I'm hoping it will also fall over to some of the Kia models.  I think it would be good for maybe a sportier version of the Forte Koup and Soul!.  But just seeing this engine available in the Sonata and maybe even the Genesis coupe.
