- Hyundai is recalling 1,783 2011 Santa Fe vehicles because of a brake problem.

WASHINGTON — Hyundai is recalling 1,783 2011 Santa Fes because the rear brake calipers may not have been properly machined, which could lead to reduced braking power, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
"As a result, brake fluid will leak, followed by illumination of the malfunction indicator light indicating the brake fluid level is low and should be checked, then a soft or spongy brake pedal feel, and if not serviced, reduced braking power which could increase the risk of a crash," said NHTSA in its recalls summary of the problem.
In other documentation filed with the federal government, Hyundai said it "became aware of this condition as a result of customer complaints on a Kia Motors Corp. model. Some of the vehicles identified were produced with rear brake calipers manufactured in the same production lots as those installed in the Kia vehicles."
The Kia vehicle is the 2011 Sorento. Kia recalled 7,697 2011 Sorentos on November 24 for the same problem. Both vehicles are built at Kia Motor Manufacturing in Georgia.
Hyundai said there have been no reports of accidents or injuries as a result of this condition.
Hyundai dealers will inspect the rear calipers and replace them, if necessary. The manufacturer has not yet provided an owner notification schedule, said NHTSA. Hyundai owners can contact the automaker at (800) 243-7766.
The recalled Hyundai vehicles were built between September 28 and November 25, 2010.

I still don't consider products from the Hyundai/Kia line up. Too much like a airport rental stigma to me.
