Hyundai OLV concept
What's Special About It?
Hyundai sees the OLV, or Outdoor Lifestyle Vehicle, as "a fun, affordable vehicle available at a compact-sedan price," according to the national manager of product planning, Doug Mottram. With its supercharged four-cylinder engine, the OLV could certainly provide some thrills both on- and off-road. The roof features three removable panels that allow for varying degrees of solar exposure along the lines of soft-top Jeeps. An enclosed trunk provides secure storage in back for day-to-day driving but can be converted to an open-air utility bed for handling larger, more awkwardly sized loads. The interior is a mix of weather-resistant materials designed to withstand the abuse of drivers who use their vehicles like just another piece of sports equipment.
Why Should You Care?
We suppose at some time in the past displaying a vehicle that could reconfigure its cargo bay to suit a customer's changing wants and needs would have been considered unique, but at this point such utility barely registers on the ol' concept meter. There's not much about the OLV that's likely to make its way into a production vehicle, but it does show that Hyundai is tinkering with various ideas about how it can best exploit its position as a builder of fun, yet affordable sport-utilities.
