FOUNTAIN VALLEY, California — Hyundai's 2010 Super Bowl ads include a potshot at the Mercedes-Benz CLS550 as well as a clever appearance by Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre, who helps the Korean automaker illustrate its 10-year/100,000-mile warranty.
In Favre's 30-second ad, the football champ looks like Father Time, with gray hair and a grizzled beard, as he accepts the Most Valuable Player award after the 2020 football season — outlasting many competitors and fans. Favre holds the NFL "iron man" record for most consecutive games started, although some sports commentators have questioned whether he is past his "sell by" date.
Another Hyundai ad, entitled "Paint," likens the 2011 Hyundai Sonata to other great sonatas, including Mozart's Piano Sonata in B Flat Major and Schubert's Sonata in A Minor. The ad shows a Sonata in the paint shop process and then emerging as a gleaming, ruby-colored creation. "Beautiful works of art are meant to last," says an announcer. On the screen are the words: "Better paint quality than the Mercedes-Benz CLS550."
Hyundai is flexing its muscle in its third consecutive year of advertising, also serving as title sponsor of the "Hyundai Kickoff Show," which begins at 6 p.m. ET and leads into the game.
Inside Line says: Expect Hyundai's Brett Favre offering to be one of the most memorable auto ads during the 2010 Super Bowl. — Anita Lienert, Correspondent

In the car business a long time, (53 years). Needed car for wife. She saw Hyundai ad on TV. Wanted to look at one. Drove Sonata V6, (2009) and loved it. Wife has driven Cadillacs, etc. Bought a new Limited without navi for $18,500. This vehicle has more features, build quality, safety than any other Car I know of. Also, my wife is a little thrifty. In the past I would not be seen driving Hyundai. I will be first in line for 2011 Sonata. Let them all talk about you Hyundai. I remember when Toyota and Honda came to this country. They were real sleds, Honda fenders rusted out and Toyota had to give guys in gas stations franchises. They all became millionaires They worked but they were terrible cars. All the naysayers conclude that Hyundai is a copycat. I guess thats why the Elantra is rated higher than the Civic

Love this company and love the creativity of the commercials. The Brett Favre commercial is epic lmao.
He's a good man who deserves to play as long as he wants.
It's funny that 10 years ago, I was such a Japanese car guy. Honda/Acura had cool cars across their range that were pretty attractive and fun to drive. Toyota still had the last vestiges of the Celica and the Supra was still pretty fresh.
Now I wouldn't own a single product (except the S2000 perhaps) from either of those two companies. The products are boring (Accords, Camry's) or ugly as sin (Accord, TL, TSX).
Hyundai is one of the few auto makers with a plethora of cars that are good looking, well built, and dare I say, exciting?
Go Hyundai!
