"The stop lamp switch in the affected vehicles may malfunction," said NHTSA in its recall summary of the problem. "A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause the brake lights to remain illuminated when the brake pedal is released.
"A stop lamp switch malfunction may affect the operation of the brake-transmission shift interlock feature so the transmission shifter would not be able to be shifted out of Park position. It may also cause the electronic stability control malfunction light to illuminate, and it may not deactivate the cruise control when the brake pedal is depressed."
The federal watchdog said the defect may "lead to a crash."
Hyundai dealers will replace the stop lamp switch for free. The recall is expected to begin sometime in April. Owners can contact Hyundai at (800) 633-5151.

I have a 2008 Veracruz Ltd. with 4800 miles on it. The rear hatch has opened all by itself 9 times in the garage and once in a shopping center. We have remote key in padded cases to protect from hatch button being pressed. Dealer has repaired damaged rear hatch twice, the last time keeping vehicle for 16 days while Hyundai engineers/reps looked at it. They now say that this is happening to other Veracruzs and have disconnected power from remote to hatch---making it a manual lift from outside the vehicle which my wife Madonna has a difficult time opening. I need your opinion on my 2007 Veracruz fuel pump. I have recently read on edmunds that recent owners have had problems with their fuel pumps and had the dealership change the item. The change has vastly increase the mileage on their 2007 Veracruz.
The dealership said to me that need to test the flow to see if the needs to be done.
What is the problem, when I have the normal bumper to bumper coverage over above the additional coverage until 95,000 miles.
I would think that with mileage like I am getting on vehicle, they would not hesitate to change the fuel pump.
I would definitely like your opinion on the fuel pump in general.
Thank you,
