    What Is It?
    Hyundai HCD9 Talus Concept

    What's Special About It?
A 2+2 sport coupe designed to be an ally in the asphalt jungle, the jacked-up, all-wheel-drive HCD9 Talus would be ideal for sports car enthusiasts who have to deal with steep driveways, deep potholes and even dirt roads. With approximately 7 inches of ground clearance, 22-inch wheels and 265/40 performance rubber, the Talus would have little chance of scraping its chin or bashing its oil pan when the going got steep or rough.

"The mission for Talus was to create a vehicle that would excite the inner passion of customers who haven't been able to justify parking a sports car in their garage," said Joel Piaskowski, chief designer at the Hyundai Design Center. "It's for a person who has grown accustomed to the needs and benefits of an SUV, but desires the emotional gratification of sports car styling and performance."

Rear-hinged "jump" doors, similar to those of the Mazda RX-8, offer access to a roomy cabin, thanks to the Talus' long, 110-inch wheelbase. Blue LED lighting gives the cockpit a cool glow at night, while a pair of DVD monitors mounted in the front headrests address the cinematic and gaming needs of those riding in the back. A night vision system and adaptive cruise control add the latest safety features to this concept.

Pouring out roughly 340 horsepower, a 4.6-liter V8 teamed up with a six-speed automatic would allow 0-60-mph blasts of under 6 seconds.

    What's Edmunds' Take?
This would be just the sports car for those of you who don't want to stress about damaging your speedy set of wheels on parking lot blocks, steep driveways and craterlike potholes. — John DiPietro
