- The new 429-horsepower 2012 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 R-Spec starts at $47,350 — a $12,300 premium over the base 2012 Genesis.
- The more prosaic 2012 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 and 4.6 models get a price increase over the 2011 Hyundai Genesis.
- The flagship Hyundai Genesis 5.0 R-Spec still slots in well under the 2011 Hyundai Equus, which remains the most expensive vehicle in the Korean automaker's lineup at $58,900.
FOUNTAIN VALLEY, California — The highly anticipated 429-horsepower 2012 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 R-Spec starts at $47,350, including an $850 destination charge, a $12,300 premium over the base 2012 Genesis. Expect a fully loaded Genesis 5.0 R Spec to top out at just under $50,000. It is on sale now.
Hyundai on Wednesday announced that the 2012 Genesis models will get a price increase due to the addition of such things as a new eight-speed transmission across the lineup.
The 2012 Genesis 3.8 with a 4.8-liter GDI V6 engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission starts at $35,050, including shipping, reflecting a $1,300 price hike over the 2011 Genesis 3.8. The 2012 Genesis 4.6 with a 4.6-liter V8 engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission starts at $45,350, including shipping, reflecting a $1,500 increase over the 2011 Genesis 4.6.
The Genesis 5.0 R-Spec is equipped with a 429-hp 5.0-liter GDI V8 and an eight-speed automatic transmission. Other standard equipment includes 19-inch premium machined finish alloy wheels, unique headlights with dark chrome inserts, sport-tuned suspension calibration, R-Spec embroidered floor mats and R-Spec rear deck-lid badging.
Optional equipment on the Genesis 5.0 R-Spec includes $1,400 Bridgestone performance tires, $100 composite cargo tray, $95 sunroof wind deflector, $50 wheel locks, $40 emergency roadside kit and a $35 iPod cable. A fully loaded Genesis 5.0 R-Spec is priced at $49,070.
The flagship Hyundai Genesis 5.0 R-Spec still slots in well under the 2011 Hyundai Equus, which remains the most expensive vehicle in the Korean automaker's lineup at $58,900.

I liked the V6 Genesis sedan in the low thirties, but pushing fifty g's isn't where Hyundai's entry-level lux market is. I doubt the big power brings in many new customers.

The idea of a Hyundai with *gasp* 429hp is completely insane. Why not go all out and equip it with a manual transmission? It will be like a bargain priced M5.

45 grand is a lot for a Hyundai. The memory of the fantastic shitboxes they used to sell (and the soon to be phased out ones they still sell) are still too fresh in my mind to pay that much for one. I think by the time their fleets gets its next overhaul they will be a respected affordable luxury brand though.
ps I like the Veloster, can't wait to give it a text drive

Re: litewerk,
Just think of the more economic mess this country will be in after all of the profits from the sale of this vehicle get sent right back to South Korea, where this was biult, instead of staying here.

Am in complete agreement with what you said. Looks like a very nice car. That 5.0 R-Spec should be fun to drive with all the luxury you're likely to need. Once again I'll suggest that as a result of the economic mess our country is in and not likely to be out of for a while, more and more folks are becoming value-conscious and looking for the most bang-for-the-buck. This is more evidence of how far Hyundai has come.

The suspension has been a weak point on the big Genesis....if the 2012 update addressed this issue, the 5.0 might be a bargain in the luxury car segment.

@ gmhl10 & madao88
I don't see any tape over the badges, so I think the people that buy this car KNOW they are buying a Hyundai and that is why they are buying it.
This car is like a bargain priced 5-series with a much better warranty.
Hyundai has repeatedly shown that you get MORE for what you pay for. Anyone who doesn't give Hyundai even a look when buying a new car is either fixated on "zee Germans", or too stubborn to change their own stereotypes of car manufacturers. How many times have we said that all domestic automakers have improved their products? How many times have people come away impressed from "downmarket" automakers?
The old bastions of the automotive domain are crumbling. Everyone is catching up to the best and the line is becoming blurred.
Then again, this is a buyer's market and you can buy what you want.

$47,350 for a Hyundai is a bit ridiculous. With that being said they have come a long way in recent years, but nearly $50k for a car that looks like a rip-off Benz......no thanks.
