If imitation is truly the sincerest form of flattery, Lexus should be VERY flattered by the all new Hyundai Genesis. And if you want a great luxury sedan and don't have any odd hang-ups about brands and labels, this imitation could work out in your favor.   The Genesis sedan is unlike any Hyundai we've driven – First of all it's rear-wheel drive, plus the interior is filled with high-quality materials and the kind of features you'd expect from a high-dollar luxury brand – the optional 14-speaker Lexicon audio system and stitched leather on the dash are anything but imitations.    With 290 hp, the 3.8 liter V6 that comes with the base Genesis is also the real deal – it's so smooth and so quiet, Buick owners will be jealous. This engine also has plenty of power – after more than two weeks with the V6 Genesis, not once did we think "this car needs a V8," although a V8 is an option.    In V6 trim, the Genesis gets from 0-60 in 6.3 seconds  - more than adequate for a mid-size luxury sedan.   Super track timesHandling is also on par with other luxury sedans. While there is a little body roll, the Genesis has a well-tuned suspension both front and rear. The Genesis V6 offers a good balance between comfort and agility, and it's well controlled with a slightly sporty edge.  But that edge never translates to hard or harsh in everyday driving situations – even at highway speeds, the Genesis remains smooth and remarkably quiet.   There’s also plenty of interior space front and back. While comparisons to the Lexus GS350 and Mercedes Benz E Class are inevitable, the Genesis is a little larger than both and is closer in overall size to an Acura RL.  But a quiet ride and lots of legroom are not enough to steal BMW and Mercedes customers. However, Lexus and Cadillac buyers may be more interested in value. At just over $32,000 the Hyundai Genesis is a significant value – add the Premium Plus package and you’ll be right at $36,000.  That pricey package is what gives this Genesis a truly luxurious feel and is worth getting. It includes features like 18-inch wheels, power sunroof, tilt and telescoping steering column, a leather wrapped steering wheel and rain sensing wipers.  But the truly remarkable thing about the 2009 Hyundai Genesis is that it offers those features without compromising value, then adds all the performance that really makes a car special - - and that’s something that just can’t be accomplished through imitation alone.

    The suspension is awful.
