SEOUL, South Korea — Korean automaker Hyundai has released two teaser shots of its face-lifted 2013 Genesis Coupe, ahead of the car's introduction in January at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show.

The photos are partial shots of the front and rear ends of the car, which gets a midcycle freshening for model year 2013. It appears that the Genesis Coupe will get a larger grille, new bumpers and reworked head- and tail lamps, among other visual changes.

The Genesis Coupe has been the subject of considerable speculation, particularly Hyundai's plans for future powertrains, after the release earlier this month of the Rhys Millen Racing RM500 Genesis Coupe that bowed at the 2011 SEMA Show.

The SEMA car was fitted with Hyundai's 5.0-liter Tau V8 engine from the Genesis and Equus sedans, resulting in a 20-horsepower boost to 450 hp on the Genesis Coupe.

Hyundai said it would not rule out a limited-run production version of the Rhys Millen Racing RM500 Genesis Coupe.

Inside Line says: A sharper, snazzier look for the Genesis Coupe.

It simply never hit the styling mark needed for the segment it's after. It's a four-seater coupe that wants to be a sports car. Some of its styling cues are as odd as the Juke's. Start with a clean slate and try again.

I dunno. The old front facia was far from perfect, but this one just doesn't go with the rest of the car. It's like transplanting Jessica Alba's face on Danny DeVito's body. It don't look right. I understand how they want a common theme, by this is just a really lazy way to design a car, especially your marque "sports car".

What hyundai needs to do instead of changing the looks on the genesis is actually improve the quality oh the car.  Steering issues to suspension problems i say

Disgusting. Looks like the Fast and Furious boys have been meddling with the Genesis in the Hyundai Workshop. Too much racer boy involved in the design element.

I'll go wait for the "more grown up" Kia version of this (yes, it is a sedan but I'm no coupe guy to begin with).

That looks great! Now if I could only get one without torque management and the 6 speed manual I'd seriously be considering this car for my next purchase.

I overall agree, but does anyone disagree that a naked Roseanne Barr is not exactly hot? I had to use my imagination of course. Against my will. Seriously.

I am starting to see in Hyundai another big Mazda smile type car.

    :)

Hyundai was on a roll stylistically until they decided to put this overly exagerated front end on the veloster and Genesis coupe. Hope this style stays on their sportier models and doesn't end up on the rest of the line up. Leave's me wondering what the Rspec elantra will look like?
