More Powerful 2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe Confirmed for 2012 Detroit Auto Show

    Just the Facts:
    • Hyundai will unveil a more powerful 2012 Genesis Coupe at the Detroit auto show.
    • Both the 2.0T and 3.8 V6 engines will receive increased output.
    • The 2012 Genesis Coupe will also debut a freshened exterior.

SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Spy photographers caught the 2012 Hyundai Genesis Coupe testing near the Arctic Circle earlier this year, and now Inside Line has confirmed the refreshed Genesis Coupe will debut at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show. It will feature an updated exterior along with increased power ratings for both of its engine offerings.

Currently, the rear-wheel-drive 2011 Hyundai Genesis Coupe is powered by either a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 engine (in 2.0T models) or a 3.8-liter V6 (in 3.8 models). The four-cylinder engine generates 210 horsepower and 223 pound-feet of torque, while the V6 pumps out 306 hp and 266 lb-ft. For the 2.0T, Hyundai offers either a six-speed manual transmission or a five-speed automatic with manual shift control. For the 3.8 models, there's the manual or a six-speed automatic, also with manual shift control.

The V6 upgrade is expected to mimic the changes already announced on the 2012 Genesis sedan. The addition of direct injection and a higher compression ratio bumps output on the V6 to 333 hp and 291 lb-ft of torque. No exact power figures have been discussed regarding the 2.0T, but we expect only modest gains as Hyundai isn't likely to do anything that will adversely affect the Coupe's mileage figures. The Genesis 2.0T is capable of getting up to 30 mpg on the highway.

Looks like it'll be 2013 when the updates will be made unless they do a 2012.5. I just went on Hyundai's website and you can build your own 2012 Genesis Coupe. I don't see a difference in the previous model and still retains the same horsepower ratings along with the same transmissions.

Maybe next year ... They might be stalling to find out what the Toyota/Scion/Subaru FT-86 will be doing with their car.

The automobile industry could actually be exciting if all the manufacturers were as aggressive and innovative as Hyundai.

I don't understand why people bother to coment on a car they don't like or don't have the cash to buy. Stick to sucking up to the Chrysler 200 junk and see how their warranty works out for you.

They really need to drop the Sonata 2.0T motor in this coupe and address the interior. I just feel they are not exploring the limits with this car. There is a market for it, but they just need to address the issues I've listed.

270 range hp, with a decent stick/auto transmission options would be nice!

    I'd buy one.

Still no match for the Challenger/Mustang/Camaro.

It ugly and cheap looking.  They should slap a "st" badge on it for secretary transport.

I can see this thing being cancelled soon.
