    FOUNTAIN VALLEY, California — For 2011, Hyundai is offering a stripped-down version of the Genesis Coupe 3.8 Track for do-it-yourself tuners. Arriving this fall at U.S. dealers, the 2011 Genesis Coupe 3.8 R-Spec is priced at $27,550 — $4,000 less than the Genesis Coupe 3.8 Track model on which it is based. Prices include an $800 shipping charge, up $50 from 2010.

    To create the 3.8 R-Spec, Hyundai started with the 3.8 Track and stripped away such nonessential hardware as automatic headlights, cruise control and chrome and metal-grain interior accents.

    The 3.8 R-Spec, which is the lowest-priced V6 model in the 2011 Genesis Coupe lineup, includes a track-tuned suspension, 19-inch gunmetal-finish alloy wheels with performance summer tires, Brembo brakes, a Torsen limited-slip differential and R-Spec badging.

    The least expensive model for 2011 is the Genesis Coupe 2.0T, priced at $23,050, up $300 from last year. The 2011 Genesis Coupe 2.0T R-Spec is priced at $25,300, up $800. The 2011 Genesis Coupe 3.8 Grand Touring is $30,550, up $1,300, while the 2011 Genesis Coupe 3.8 Track starts at $31,550, up $300.

    The other significant change for 2011 is the addition of navigation and automatic climate control as standard equipment on the Genesis Coupe 2.0T Premium, which is priced at $27,550, up $2,550.

    I think Hyundai is going to rework the 2.0t in the Genesis Coupe to the same level at the Sonata 2.0t and the 3.8 Coupe will get the same rework as the Genesis Sedan 3.8 (bumping power up to at least 335).

    Despite the price and performance differences between the Genesis and other sport's Coupe's, don't forget that they are releasing this version of the Genesis "for DIY tuners".

    Therefore all you have to do is look at the cost of tuning this car VS the cost of buying a better car at a higher price.  Spend a few thousand dollars on a throttlebody upgrade (preferably independant TB's), standalone ECU, better exhaust and brakes, and you'll see a big change in the performance of the Genesis.

    "Sports Suspension" is just a term in my opinion, as the Z and Mustang may have effectively the same suspension, but the salesmen decided not to call it sports suspension, as for the price of these cars you would expect sports suspension performance as standard (otherwise, why pay so much money for the car?).

    Overall, for the price it's not a bad project for tuners out there who want to see what they can do, without paying big bucks up-front just to get the project car.  However, the interesting point will be how Hyundai handle the warranty, as if they are selling with DIY tuning in mind, a standard warranty would be void as soon as you'd undone a screw! - So I'd like to see how the warranty would work on the Genesis.

    The Nissan Z doesn't really compete with the Hyundai, two-seater much harder edged and uncomfortable.   The Genesis coupe is more of a GT than a sports car.

    Let me clear up a few things since reading and comprehension seems to have passed you bye.

    wizard8873; you would be correct, the Z starts at 30,414, but for about 3 grand more the Z is still the better coupe.

    And cmike; you're also correct, Brembo is just a current name in brakes as Bose is to stereo systems. Nice setup, but obviously there are better products out there, even at the dealer.

    ns5; I never once mentioned performance, because even with a live rear axle, the Mustang out performs this car for around 25K.

    I was simply commenting on how hyundai put a nice little package together at around 28K....

    I swear when you chickens get together, you're worse then a sowing circle, and more gossipy sounding then the old hens in my office.

    i have to agree with lions....this is a very nice car for a great value.  compact, strong v6, rwd, good looks, 6mt for 28k.   i cant compare the mustang to this car after seeing them side by side.  the mustang makes this car look pretty small.

    the mustang may put up better numbers, but to do so it wont cost the entry level price that you guys are touting as an advantage plain and simple

    @cmike2780: And even with the Brembos, it still stops in longer distances than the base Mustang (Without Brembos).

    @lions208487: If you watch some reviews, and comparisons, you'll see that the Mustang's performance stats are ultimately better. The Mustang stops shorter than the Brembo-equipped GC. Limited slip differential or not, the Mustang puts down faster 0-60 times and 1/4 mile times. All while the GC 3.8 starts out 4-5K above the Mustang. The GC is an attractive car, and a good performer, but the Ford is all-around better.
