    FOUNTAIN VALLEY, California — Many of the custom vehicles at the 2009 SEMA Auto Show won't see the light of day beyond the Las Vegas venue. But the 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T R-Spec — the first production R-Spec model bound for the U.S. — is already making its way into showrooms.

    The Genesis Coupe 2.0T R-Spec makes its world debut at the 2009 SEMA Auto Show. While the public isn't allowed inside the aftermarket trade show, the stripped-down Genesis Coupe is readily available for consumers who have very specific ideas about how they want — or don't want — to spec out the car. The base price is $24,500, including a $750 shipping charge.

    The Genesis Coupe 2.0T R-Spec "eliminates nonessential convenience equipment to reduce cost and weight," said Hyundai in a statement. The deleted items include Bluetooth, automatic headlights, cruise control, trip computer, chrome interior accents and steering wheel audio controls.

    The R-Spec models adds Track model performance equipment, including Track-tuned suspension, 19-inch gunmetal-finish alloy wheels with performance summer tires, Brembo braking system, Torsen limited-slip differential and R-Spec badging.

    "In a special nod to tuners, R-Spec will also receive a set of front strut camber adjustment bolts to further enhance initial turn-in and handling response," said the automaker.

    Power comes from a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers 210 horsepower and has a top speed of 137 mph. The engine is linked to a six-speed manual transmission. Hyundai says an automatic transmission is not available with the R-Spec.

    Icecube...I feel like you do.  Especially since I ordered my 2004 G35 coupe with as little as Infiniti would allow.  I got a base model which deleted the sunroof (for extra headroom), dual climate, auto headlights, and no Bose stereo.  However, because I got a manual it still has leather heated seats, Brembos, and all the other random goodies.  Getting a base model didn't hurt the MSRP either.  

    Really though...Infiniti has moved the G37 upscale quite a bit, including the weight scale, so you could just say Hyundai is just filling a void in the current market.

    I'm sure these couple of ounces saved in weight by eliminating the steering wheel controls was put to good use.     Hyundai  should have spiked the sunroof, air conditioning and power windows and pretended they were serious.

    No competition at all for me, I'll take the Genesis over a Camaro, Mustang, Challanger, Celeica, S2000 or nearly any other sport coupe in category.

    It's only $1,500 less than the Track model, and $1,750 more than the base 2.0T.  That seems like a reason to buy either of those models to me.  But I'd like to keep my warranty also.  Especially such a great one.  

    I wonder if Hyundai is advertising this as "In a special nod to tuners..." that they will make exceptions to alterations.  I doubt it.
