2008 SEMA Show Preview: HKS Hyundai Genesis Coupe

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, California — Hyundai has enlisted the U.S. arm of one of Japan's top performance parts houses to help it tweak the new Genesis coupe for the upcoming 2008 SEMA Show.

HKS USA will provide a GT Turbo upgrade package for the Genesis coupe, which goes on sale next spring in the U.S. as a 2010 model. The HKS treatment includes engine performance parts, notably a high-flow intake system and a new engine control module, as well as a new exhaust system and a fully adjustable suspension. HKS also will provide a ground-effects exterior package and interior upgrades.

In Japan, HKS makes performance parts for such domestic brands as Toyota and Mitsubishi and such imports as BMW, Lotus and Volkswagen.

HKS is the second tuner to announce a SEMA package for the Genesis coupe. Rhys Millen Racing also plans to showcase a Genesis coupe concept at the annual fall bash.

What this means to you: Let's see: Rear-wheel drive, turbo engine, sporty good looks. Yup — the Genesis coupe appears to have all the basic ingredients for a SEMA tuner special. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
