    • Its 1.6 Gamma GDI engine delivers 138 horsepower.

    BUSAN, South Korea — Hyundai unveiled its redesigned Avante compact here at the 2010 Busan Auto Show. Its best-selling model worldwide, the new Avante — sold in global markets as the Elantra — will feature the company's 1.6-liter Gamma gasoline direct-injection four-cylinder engine and a six-speed automatic transmission. The new sedan is expected to arrive in the U.S. later this year, badged as the 2011 Elantra.

    The 1.6 Gamma GDI engine delivers 138 horsepower and 123 pound-feet of torque and delivers better fuel economy than many of its competitors with conventional gasoline engines of similar size.

    Among the new car's available features in Korea are heated rear seats, puddle lamps, high-intensity-discharge headlamps, LED taillamps and an LCD information display in the instrument cluster.

    Hyundai said the new Avante will go on sale in the Korea market in the second half of the year.

    I recently drove a friends 5-yr old Elantra for 1/2 day and I was actually very impressed at how well it drove.  She has not had a single issue with her car and nothing outside regular scheduled maintainence and oil changes.

    I might seriously be considering one of these in the future..

    Can't wait. Have a 2007 and love it. Elantra really is a great car.

    is this the basis for the engine due for the Veloster/Tiburon? Maybe they will turbo it too?

    Hyundai started implementing family-look on Sonata and Elantra.  Nicely done.

    I would like to see a hatchback version with a turbocharged 1.6.

    Yes ink it will.  1.6 GDI is for Accent in the US.

    @myself

    OK, so I looked up the I-Flow, this isn't the same car, but I definitely see some design elements from that concept in this.

    I agree with you about the look of this car and Hyundai being a winner, but per insideline's own articles, the Sonata and Optima coupes were just photo renderings. In orther words, mock-ups of what the cars would look like in coupe versions. No announcements have been made by Hyundai/Kia concerning coupes for either model.

    Wasn't this the i-flow concept? Looks an awful lot like it.

    Hmmm. The Sonata or Optima was gonna be my 1st pick for my next car. If the finances don't work out that way, I will likely go the route of the Elantra, or as I used to call it, the "Accident". Great job, Hyundai!

    Beautiful, Hyundai. It does not look anything like a Honda Civic. Which is a great thing. Because of the Civic sedan's odd shape, you can't tell the front from the back or if it's coming or going..lol
