FOUNTAIN VALLEY, California — Hyundai has shaved $1,800 off the base price of its compact five-door hatchback. The 2010 Hyundai Elantra Touring will now start at $16,715 when it begins reaching U.S. dealers this fall.

The 2009 Elantra Touring was priced at $18,520 and was offered in a single model. The five-door hatchback companion to the Elantra sedan for 2010 will be offered in three trim levels: GLS manual, GLS automatic and SE manual.

The Elantra Touring GLS with five-speed manual transmission will carry a sticker of $16,715, while the same model with four-speed automatic will be priced from $17,915. The SE with five-speed manual will fetch $19,715. All prices include a $720 shipping charge.

The base GLS model includes such standard features as electronic stability control, four-wheel disc brakes and a 172-watt audio system with XM Satellite Radio and iPod/USB jacks. A built-in roof rack is a new option for 2010.

The Elantra Touring SE comes loaded with equipment, including a power sunroof, heated front seats, leather steering wheel and shift knob, B&M Racing sport shifter and 215/45R17 tires mounted on 17-inch alloy wheels.
