    What's special about it?
Seven real-world Hyundai owners took the stage at the Hyundai New York auto show press conference and helped John Krafcik, Hyundai's vice president of product development and strategic planning, pull the cover off the all-new 2007 Hyundai Elantra.

Krafcik said the Elantra, Hyundai's best-selling car, just passed the 1 million unit sales mark, and he expects the slightly larger 2007 model to carry on the tradition.

The new Elantra gets a sleeker look, with a new dynamic headlight unit, a chrome grille and body-colored door handles and mirrors. It's also more than 2 inches taller and 2 inches wider than the outgoing Elantra.

There's also more interior space than before, and a higher seating position. Most people would probably consider the Hyundai Elantra a compact sedan, but its new interior volume brings its EPA rating to midsize, beating the recently redesigned Nissan Sentra.

Three trim levels are available on the front-wheel-drive Hyundai sedan, GLS, SE and top-of-the-line Limited, which comes with heated leather seats. But all models are well equipped with plenty of convenience features, including power windows, intermittent windshield wipers, multiple storage areas, a 60/40-split fold-down rear seatback, dual vanity mirrors, tinted windows, two 12-volt outlets and a tilt steering wheel.

The '07 Elantra features a new 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine that earns an ultralow emission (ULEV) rating with 138 horsepower, and a cleaner version with a super-ultralow (SULEV) rating and 132 hp will be sold in the green states, including California and New York. A five-speed manual comes standard, and a four-speed automatic is optional on all trim levels.

Starting price will be under $14,000 and include Hyundai's 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.

    What's Edmunds' take?
The 2007 Elantra marks Hyundai's seventh new vehicle in just two years. And like the prior six vehicles, which include the Tucson, Accent, Sonata and all-new flagship Azera, the Elantra should be a hit. — Kelly Toepke
