WASHINGTON — Hyundai is recalling 65,226 of its 2006-'09 Azera sedans because the right front airbag may not deploy in the event of a crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
"The wiring harness for the right front seatbelt tension sensor may sustain damage after repeated use of the seatbelt," said NHTSA in its summary of the problem. "If the seatbelt tension sensor wiring becomes damaged, the airbag will not deploy in the event of a crash necessitating front airbag deployment."
In other documentation filed with the federal government, Hyundai said it is not aware of any injuries related to damaged seatbelt tension sensor wiring in the affected vehicles.
The recall is expected to begin in February. For vehicles that experience illumination of the airbag warning lamp, the right front seatbelt will be replaced. In other cases, the seatbelt tension sensor wiring for the right front seatbelt will be rerouted and secured with a new seatbelt tension sensor wiring harness clip.
Owners may contact Hyundai at (800) 633-5151.
